India is growing rapidly from agrarian society to industrialisation. This aggressive growth in industrialisation attracts more people to work in urban environment where the companies are established and well in number. Growing population in urban cities need better management in terms of Transportation, Healthcare, Food supply and Waste disposal. Waste disposal/ Management is pretty challenging for the country like India which has over 377 million urban people living in 7,935 towns and cities.
The amount of waste produced by the larger cities is comparitively higher when compared with the towns and suburbs. As per the survey conducted by the “Tata Energy Research Institute” , higher income group generates more solid waste than the middle class and lower income groups respectively.
Increase in population amoung the urban society will also increases the challenges in waste management/ disposal the amount of waste produced by the larger cities are comparitively higher than the towns and suburbs. Solid waste disposal is at a critical stage of development in India. There is a need to develop facilities to treat & dispose of increasing amount of solid wastes. More than 90% of waste in India believed to be dumped in an unsatisfactory manner. It is estimated that approximately 1400 Square Kilometer will be occupied by waste dumps in 2040 and this is expected to increase in the future.
